The Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance helps make sure rental homes in the Borough are safe and in good condition. It requires landlords to register their rental properties, have them inspected, and obtain the required Rental Occupancy Permit before people can move in. The ordinance also makes sure landlords fix safety problems and keep their properties up to code. These rules help protect tenants, improve neighborhoods, and keep our community safe for everyone.
Rental property owners are responsible for maintaining current registration and complying with the inspection and occupancy requirements of Chapter 189.
Rental Inspection Zones
Rental properties are inspected at least once every three years. A Rental Occupancy Permit is valid for three years from the date of issuance. When the permit expires, the property must be reinspected before a new permit is issued. Additional inspections may be required when violations are identified or when ownership of the property changes.

The Borough is divided into inspection zones to help Code Enforcement organize and schedule inspections throughout the three-year inspection cycle.
