Rental Registration

All rental properties are to be registered by March 1, 2022

The Borough of Port Carbon in an effort to protect the health of our residents and encourage property owners and tenants to maintain and improve rental housing within our community has enacted Chapter 189 of the Port Carbon Borough Code.

Chapter 189 requires landlords to do the following:

• Register their property and tenants annually with the Borough.
• Name an agent to maintain the property when the property owner resides more than twenty (20) miles from the Borough limits.
• Successfully complete an inspection of the property once every three years by the Borough appointed Code Enforcement Officer.
• All owners shall be required to maintain a minimum of one-hundred thousand dollars in general liability insurance, and hazard and casualty insurance in an amount sufficient to either restore or remove the building in the event of a fire or other casualty.

Rental Registration Fees: (Deadline April 30, 2024)

$5.00 per unit

$10.00 per occupant

Rental Registration

All rental properties are subject to inspection in the Borough of Port Carbon. It is the responsibility of the landlord to contact the Borough and arrange the inspection. The rental inspections operate on a three year rotation with the Borough being divided into three (3) zones.

ZONE #1 (2022) – South Coal, Jackson, South Washington, Spruce, Rose, South Pine, Canal, Baden Powell, Hickory, Commerce, Acre, Lang, East Washington, Main, Mill, and Newbold

ZONE #2 (2023) – North Coal, Pike, Cherry, North, Krebs, Spring, East, Centre, Rock, Oak, Valley, Apple, Wood, North Washington, and Pine

ZONE #3 (2024) – First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Pottsville, Brown, Broad, Lillian, Reese, Plum, Walnut, Lyon, Nichols, Morris, Lawton, Grand, Chestnut, Market, Wilson, Commerce, and Park

Inspection Fees:

$80.00 initial unit

$50.00 each additional unit
